Antennas

Guerrilla.Net has a design for an innovative 5dBi gain omnidirectional antenna here.

January 2006: Some notes I made about the installation of an omnidirectional antenna. Non-pentrating roof mount used. Notes made for the City of Cambridge, but useful information for others.

You can make a 14 dBi panel antenna

Construction of a helical antenna is described here.

Discone antenna by Walla Walla College.

The famous Pringle's Can directional antenna was originally described by Andrew Clapp here, and Rob Flickenger of O'Reilly has modifications here. While this antenna is inexpensive and novel, I don't think it can stand up to much rigorous use. It also is reportedly inefficient for transmitting (It has a high SWR).

Directive Systems sells an 11.5 dBi loop yagi antenna for the low price of $59.50 (model 1209LY). While the construction of this antenna is electrically satisfactory, its mechanical construction (bolted together rather than welded) results in it being fairly fragile for portable operation. This is the interesting looking antenna that got a lot of attention at the BAWIA January meeting.
